ETO Trainee / Electro-Technical Cadet

4–6 months (pre-sea course, depending on the program)

Complete mandatory training and prepare for onboard service.

Junior ETO / Assistant ETO (not on all ships)

6–12 months

Assist with maintenance of electrical and electronic systems.

Electro-Technical Officer (ETO)

After required sea service and certification

Responsible for all electrical, electronic, automation, communication, and navigation equipment.

Senior ETO / Lead ETO (on larger or specialized vessels)

Experience-based

Oversees electrical work and may supervise junior ETOs or assistants.
